Make a Dash for the 50 Yard Line Steakhouse

The 50 Yard Line Steakhouse is one of the best restaurants in town, & we never hesitate to recommend it to all our guests. Their attention to detail, from the fresh relish tray, hearty beefy onion soup, awesome cheese rolls and melt in your mouth blueberry muffins to the juicy steaks and crisp salad is second to none.

One of Lubbock’s better-known & most venerable establishments, the restaurant is conveniently situated along the South Loop 289 access road at University Avenue, making it a snap to find for even the newest visitor to the city. I feel it is safe to say that many residents of the Panhandle can recall memorable evenings spent dining here. One of David’s classmates from Friona High School remembered her brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner being held there, and almost 30 years later another classmate’s niece received her engagement proposal during a romantic dinner. And what Texas Tech student hasn’t anxiously anticipated a visit from mom and dad – hoping they will be treated to a free meal at The 50 Yard Line?

Whether diners are seeking that romantic evening for two or require meeting space that can accommodate 8-200 guests, The 50 Yard Line can play the congenial host. Menus run the gamut from aged beef to Australian rock lobster. The lounge creates a lively Raider Rita and boasts a list of fine wines for the most discerning connoisseur, including Texas labels. Their house wines come from Lubbock’s own Caprock Winery.

Six separate private dining rooms can be reserved, with specialized menus available to fit any group’s budget. Recently, David & the ITEX Lubbock Trade Exchange hosted a meeting of 80 business leaders, and The 50 Yard Line facilitated a seamless mean service. I’ve included some photographs that will provide visitors with an idea of the pleasant environment they can anticipate.

Cooks wanting to recreate the blueberry muffins can find the recipe online at and the restaurant now sells its “secret ingredient,” Butavan, for $12 per pint or $45 per gallon. This little extra infuses a rich butter/vanilla flavor that replaces plain vanilla in many standard recipes. Now if we could just get them to part with their recipe for those famous cheese rolls!

The cheese rolls & blueberry muffins are more popular than the steaks.
